NTUA

Founded in 1837, National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) is the oldest Technical University in Greece.  NTUA is participating in PASITHEA project with the following three research teams of the School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering:

The Shipbuilding Technology Laboratory, whose activities are focused mainly on structural analysis and design optimization of marine structures, structural health monitoring, materials science and technology, welding science and technology, corrosion, destructive and non-destructive testing of materials and structures, composite materials, and their applications in marine structures.

The Division of Marine Engineering, whose activities are focused mainly on theoretical, computational, and experimental research on ship propulsion systems (static and dynamic propulsion train analysis), bearing operation, shaft-bearing interactions, complex CFD-based optimization studies of engines (using conventional and alternative fuels), research related to the design and operational assessment of ship auxiliary engines and machinery, and synthesis, design, and optimization of ship energy systems and propulsion arrangements.

The Division of Ship & Marine Hydrodynamics with its Ship Model Towing Tank (100m x 4.6m x 3m), whose activities are focused mainly on testing large-scale models, carrying out full-scale measurements onboard ships, performing state-of-the-art numerical computations encompassing linear and non-linear potential and high-fidelity viscous flow analysis of the hull forms, the propulsion units, and the appendages, as well as on resistance, propulsion, seakeeping, hydro-elasticity, maneuvering, operability and operation management, ocean wave analysis, noise and vibration.
